Montserrat |
|
Montserrat is the spiritual
heart of Catalonia. The
Benedictine Monastery of
Montserrat is where the
monks worship Catalonia's
Patron Saint, the black
Madonna of Montserrat. As
you travel up the mountains
to the XIV c Monastery you
will have a chance to admire
the unique stone formation
of this natural park and the
breathtaking views from the
Shrine at 721 m (2100 feet).
The
Mountain of Montserrat
is 1 hour 30 minutes from
Barcelona by train and cable
car. You will have an
historical and cultural
introduction to the
Monastery as well as a
geological approach to the
natural park. Discover why
they worship the Black
Madonna and how the
shepherds found her. At the
monastery you can choose
between a visit to the
Basilica of the XII c
“Moreneta” or taking the
funicular to Sant Joan for
spectacular views across
Catalonia.
Don't
miss the singing of the
Escolania Choir (little
school) one of the most
prestigious children's
choirs in Europe. The
Escolania was founded in the
XIV c and they sing Mondays
to Fridays and Sundays in
the Basilica.
